The Norman Artesien Basset is a short-legged French scenthound with a long body, long ears, and a short tricolor or bicolor coat. It is lighter and more athletic than a Basset Hound.

The Norman Artesien Basset, or Basset Artesien Normand, is a French hare hound from Normandy and Artois. It is one of the lighter French bassets. The UKC classes it as a Scenthound.

Temperament

These bassets are typically friendly, noisy on a track, and determined once a scent is found. They need more walking than a short yard break. They will follow a trail out of an unfenced yard.

Train the recall early and use a long line.

Care and grooming

Wipe the short coat and clean the long ears. Keep this long-backed dog lean and limit jumping off furniture.

Shedding

Low to moderate.

Health

As with other bassets, ear infections and disc problems can occur. Keep the dog from becoming overweight.
